DESCRIPTION
This folding deck chair in solid teak wood has a carved back panel and an elegant top rail. The beautifully hand caned seat & leg rest make it an extremely comfortable piece ideal for a verandah or lounge corner. It can be folded and stored when not in use. The unique design allows it to be used for varying positions with legs completely straight or folded comfortably at the knees.

RESTORATION
The chair is finished with traditional black polish and wax. Some of the original brass hardware was found missing and has been fabricated to match the original sample. It is hand caned with Assam cane in an intense diamond pattern.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
The Europeans were constantly travelling between Europe and colonies and being on the move necessitated taking chairs with them. Folding steamer chairs became familiar sights on ships that traveled to foreign ports. Later, they appeared in tents and on verandas as plantation chairs.
