DESCRIPTION This well constructed writing desk is made of solid teak wood with a top swing open panel which lifts up to reveal a spacious inside. This would have been used to write on and to store documents and writing objects. There is a vertical trim on the top flat panel and the desk rests on tiny ball feet. This piece is ideal for a squat down study corner or for a child's study and storage space.

RESTORATION Upto five coats of natural polish with a final coat of clear wax will bring out the natural grain of the wood. The delivery time for 'As is' piece is 2-3 weeks and 'Restored' piece is 4-6 weeks.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT Munshis were originally men gifted in language who were employed by the East India Company, among others, to assist in their business enterprises. They usually got a corner in a room with a squat down desk with most of their important documents being locked up in this desk at the end of the day.
