Cabinets-on-stand, similar to the front opening Vargueno were first made in the 16th century. Towards the late 17th century and all the way up to the 18th century, they were made in large numbers in Europe for the elite. For the privileged, it was the most sought after piece of luxury furniture after the grand bed.
