A tall British era Bureau on tapering hand turned legs, is a handsome addition to a large study. The sloping lid smoothly slides to reveal pigeon holes of varying sizes and two pull out drawers. The top panel of the bureau is wide enough to display items and hold books.

This piece is in good condition. The sliding lid has some cracks from long time wear and tear. The pull knob on the sliding panel can be replaced as preferred.
With some minor tightening and repair of the structure, we finished this piece with traditional natural polish and wax. The brass hardware has been buffed to a shine.
A The Bureau evolved from simple portable boxes with sloping lids used by writers in the Middle Ages. Towards the third quarter of the seventeenth century this form of the desk appears to have been made on a stand as well. While these Bureaus were initially on turned legs, in due course they followed fashion and were raised on cabrioles.
